Frequently Asked Questions

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is a client-agenda driven partnership between an individual and their coach. The coach assists the client in achieving life balance, fulfillment of their goals, pursuing new areas of interest, discovering their most authentic self, improving their personal and professional relationships, growing spiritually, or any number of needs a client may have.

Is life coaching the same as therapy?

While life coaches can assist, to a degree, in helping you overcome a particular problem area or move beyond a past hurt, they are not licensed therapists (There are many therapists who do operate as coaches). Mostly, coaches are NOT medical professionals. Therapy mainly focuses on the client's past and helping them move beyond hurts and injustices in their life. Coaches are more forward thinking by helping clients to ignite dormant or otherwise unacknowledged passions and keep them focused on designing the life they want. Coaching focuses more on the attainment and maintenance of things you want in your life rather than on what you don't want or like in you life.

How do I know I am ready to hire a coach?

The best coaching clients are those individuals who are truly ready to make a time and financial commitment to the process of change and personal growth. They recognize that something is out of balance and they are fully engaged in the process of seeking out what it will take to get them into alignment. If you would like more help in determining whether or not you would be successful with a coach at this time, please contact us for a free consultation.

What is meant by "authentic self"?

We all have inner lives filled with personal desires, personality traits, opinions, passions, interests, talents, and goals that together make each of us unique individuals. Often times, our unique cocktail of individuality can be lost in the collective voices of our families, friends, society, religious beliefs, professions, and media thereby inhibiting the "authentic self" from fully emerging. For a lot of people, this process of hindrance begins in childhood. Through coaching you can learn to honor your sincerest wishes and become more confident and comfortable with yourself.

What is meant by "client-driven agenda"?

Client-driven agenda refers to the fact that the client sets the tone for the sessions. It is completely up to the client what areas of their life they want to receive coaching in. While it is our goal to help clients stay on task with their previously stated goals and objectives, sessions have a fluidity that allows them to shift focus when necessary. Coaches remain in the moment and are at the will of the client. The only exception to this would be guided group coaching in that consideration must be given to the proper instruction of the designated topic and the interests of the various group members.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes, coaching is completely confidential. The specifics of your file will never be discussed with a third party without your expressed consent.

Why is advanced payment required?

Tracey L. Louis Coaching, as with most other coaching practices, requires advanced payment of sessions to ensure that clients receive the highest quality and timeliest service possible. Financial security, or lack thereof, can often be a source of stress for some people. Therefore, advanced payment eliminates the need for undue stress as to whether or not you can continue your sessions. It also prevents the need to use valuable session time to discuss outstanding payments. The entire process of coaching should be as seamless and efficient as possible.

How long does a coaching engagement last?

The length of your coaching engagement is totally up to you. The duration largely depends upon two factors: 1.) Your level of motivation and commitment. 2.) Your desired goals. The more motivated and committed to the process you are, the more effectively you'll work toward attaining them. The level of difficulty and natural progression or time frame of the desired end result you are seeking, also greatly factors into how long of an engagement you have. Average engagements are 3-6 months.
